Oreo Pride: The backlash

Christian hate* never ceases to amaze me, one day they are all up in arms about contraception, the next day a TV show, and today it’s all directed towards cookies, and not just any cookie, but Oreos! All of this hate is because of one simple picture. A picture of an Oreo cookie with rainbow filling that said “Support Love”. How could any sane person be against something like that? Well, to the hate filled (they say it’s love filled) Christians in the world it’s all part of the “gay agenda” (whatever the hell that is) and they aren’t going to sit back and watch Oreo corrupt the youth of America with their rainbow cookie of love!   So I decided to go onto Oreo’s facebook page to like the picture, and give my “good for you” comment but then I discovered the blind hate spewing out of these loving Christians mouths and I decided to collect up some of them and share them here because this is insanely comical to me! The hypocrisy of this, (and every similar situation) is hilarious, the best part is, they can’t see how hypocritical this is, they think this behavior is what love looks like!  ’Da FUQ’

First, here is the picture that is causing so much uproar. Now, I can’t seem to find one that says “Support Love” on it, I can only find one that says “Pride”, either way, this is the rainbow cookie. :)

Pride!

That’s it! That’s what they are mad about, a damn rainbow cookie supporting equality and love!

Now for the comments on the Facebook page. I’m going to break these comments into groups and only post some of them. There is literally hundreds of hateful comments on the page that are either exactly like these, or damn similar so I picked out a bunch of the “good” ones.

1. The simple “I dislike you now” people

2. The “stop shoving the gay agenda down my throat” People *Side note, WTF does that even mean? What the hell is this “gay agenda”?

3. The very popular “I don’t hate gay people, I just hate gay people enough to not eat a cookie anymore” people.

4. The “I have values/morals” people

Think of the CHILDREN!

So there you have it, a small selection of the crazy hateful Christians flooding the Oreo page with crazy comments. But don’t fret! Humanity isn’t a total loss, for every one of those shameful remarks there are 5 positive ones. :)

Isn’t it funny the things people get worked up about! I mean come on…. It’s a COOKIE, and not even a real one, it’s a photoshoped Cookie! If anything we should be mad that we can’t eat that delicious looking thing!

*When I say “Christian Hate” I obviously don’t mean ALL Christians, though, if I were to judge solely by the conduct I see displayed online by Christians, it would be easy to assume that all of them hate everything and everyone who isn’t a fundamentalist Christian like themselves.

The Monster Named Rick Santorum

Grade A Douche Bag!

I swore to myself I wasn’t going to write about Rick Santorum. I despise this man, not only as a politician, but also as a human being, if you could even go as far to say he is human. When I look at Santorum I feel like I am a Grim, like on the TV show Grim (if you haven’t watched it you should it’s great) every time the Grim sees one of the ‘creatures’ be it a werewolf, dragon, or mouse man, the creature’s face changes in a moment of stress or high emotion, when I look at Santorum I see a monster, a twisted, contorted version of something that isn’t quite a man, but not quite demon either.   I know that all sounds like something someone who should be institutionalized says, but I don’t care, it’s true. Rick Santorum is a monster and I loathe him! So, because of my overall disgust with the republican candidates/primaries I said to myself (and everyone else) that I was done with this campaign, I was done with the republican candidates because not a single one is worth my time, and I decided I would just vote Obama, because seriously, who in their right mind is voting for these republican candidates?  At this point I’m surprised a write-in candidate isn’t winning all the primary elections!

Now this brings me to the most recent primaries. I thought for sure Santorum didn’t have a chance in hell of winning anything. I thought for sure everyone would see how evil he is for themselves and just write him off as an ignorant bigot. Boy was I wrong, he has been going steady this whole primary and now he actually WON?! Tha FUQ?! How is this even possible?  Well, I have a theory as to why he may be wining at the moment.

Santorum is winning because of this recent hate on contraceptives. Somehow within the last couple months birth control has become enemy number one, and subsequently any woman who wants birth control, or is currently using birth control is a no good slut! Because of that Santorum has be able to ride that bandwagon and has found success in doing so.  Here’s the thing about Santorum, and usually I don’t just blatantly assume someone’s opinion, but Santorum hates women, end of story.  You can tell by his voting record that he has some serious issues with the female gender.

  • Voted NO on $100M to reduce teen pregnancy by education & contraceptives. (Mar 2005)
  • Voted YES on criminal penalty for harming unborn fetus during other crime. (Mar 2004)
  • Voted YES on banning partial birth abortions except for maternal life. (Mar 2003)
  • Voted YES on maintaining ban on Military Base Abortions. (Jun 2000)
  •  No abortions even in cases of rape; one violence is enough. (Aug 2011)

The funny thing is Santorum is no different than any of the other candidates. At one time he didn’t hate women as much. At one time he even went at far to say that abortions are alright at long as rape or incest was involved.  “Exception for rape & incest ok, even though they take a life.” (Sep 2006) A lot changes in six years I guess. Maybe his mom told him she wanted to abort him and wish she did, or something and that changed his mind, who knows! I have no idea why 6 years ago he was all fine with some abortion, and now he is absolutely against it no matter what the circumstance may be. Also, he thinks Plan B is an abortion pill because he an idiot. I could say this until I am blue in the face; Plan B is not an abortion pill! If you’re already impregnated and take Plan B it will NOT cause a miscarriage, it will do absolutely nothing for you. There is an abortion pill that is available, it’s called Mifeprex.  But, abortion pill or no it doesn’t matter, Santorum is against all birth control except abstinence, something that just doesn’t work, it never will work, yet he continues to beat that dead horse.  So, that’s my theory about why Santorum has won the last two primaries, plus when you look at the states he won in, (Alabama and Mississippi) it becomes pretty clear the only reason why he won is because those two states are very conservative on many issues, one of them just so happens to be birth control.

But wait, there’s more! Santorum’s stance on birth control isn’t my only problem with him the guy is a total nut case! He is a super conservative piece of crap who can’t seem to separate his personal beliefs with his policy and that is something America just does not need! So today I have taken the time to put together a list of my most hated things about Rick Santorum.  Hopefully, if you are a supporter of him, this list with change your mind and Rick Santorum will go back to the cave he crawled out of and stay in there for good.

Rick Santorum hates gay people! Yep, that’s right, he hates gay people too.  He may say some things that make him sound somewhat tolerant of gay people, like: “I agree with hearing gay ideas but disagree with some.” (Jan 2012) Or, “Homosexual orientation ok; but homosexual acts are sodomy.”(Apr 2003) if this was all he ever said about gay people you would think it wasn’t too terrible, I mean, it looks like he is ok with gay people, he is just grossed out with gay sex. That’s not the case though, for those two moderately ok things he said about gay people (I only say they are moderately ok, not because I personally agree, but because compared to the other things he has said about gay people these two things make him sound like a saint) he has said a whole slew of derogatory bullshit about gay people.

  • Right to gay sex implies right to bigamy, incest, & adultery. (Jan 2012)
  • No polygamy; no gay marriage. (Aug 2011)
  • Repeal Don’t-Ask-Don’t-Tell; punish behavior. (Jun 2011)
  • Same-sex marriage takes us away from purpose of marriage. (Jul 2004)
  • Voted YES on constitutional ban of same-sex marriage. (Jun 2006)
  • Voted NO on adding sexual orientation to definition of hate crimes. (Jun 2002)
  • Voted NO on expanding hate crimes to include sexual orientation. (Jun 2000)
  • Voted YES on prohibiting same-sex marriage. (Sep 1996)
  • Voted NO on prohibiting job discrimination by sexual orientation. (Sep 1996)

What really gets me here is the voting NO on including sexual orientation to the definition of hate crimes, and the vote prohibiting job discrimination based on sexual orientation. REALLY?! Gay men and women are beat up, stabbed, shot, and killed all the time because they are gay. Gay teens/adults are harassed to the point of suicide! Anyone who can’t see this is a problem doesn’t deserve to even be thinking about becoming POTUS! The United States of America was founded in the name of personal freedom, to even be voting on stuff like this in the first place goes against the constitution, and to actually vote against basic human rights is just plain un-American.

Speaking of Un-American, Santorum is just that, he doesn’t seem to be a big fan of freedom of expression.

  •       Voted YES on Amendment to prohibit flag burning. (Dec 1995)
  •       Voted YES on loosening restrictions on cell phone wiretapping. (Oct 2001)
  •       Voted YES on recommending Constitutional ban on flag desecration. (Jun 2006)

Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not a fan of flag burning. I think it’s stupid, pointless, and I myself will probably never do it. But damn it! If someone is so pissed off that they want to burn the American flag then I will defend their right to do so! Every American should feel the same way, we all the right to free speech and freedom of expression, flag burning is no exception to the law, and I’m sorry, but if our supreme court will allow the West Burrow Baptist Church to preach hate at military funerals then flag burning should be A-Okay! As for loosening the restrictions on cell phone wiretapping, yeah, I am 100% against that! Again, we have a right to privacy, even though Santorum doesn’t seem to think we do, “There is no federal right to privacy.” (Apr 2003) Yeah that’s right, he said that too.

Santorum hates education. This is not a surprise to me because the guy is an idiot, and honestly, I feel sorry for his children.  “Home-schooled six children with wife Karen.” (Apr 2006) Those poor, poor children!  Education, however, is another one of those topics where a few years ago he had a totally different stance than the one he has today, for example;  “2006: college for all; 2012: college for all is snobbish.”; “2001: Keep Department of Education; 2012: it’s unnecessary.”; “Rich people already have school choice; give it to the poor.” (April 2006). Not only this, but he continually talks crap about how bad our public school system is, how we are falling behind other countries, which is totally true and I do believe something needs to be done about it, but Santorum’s solution to the problem is voting against funding for public schools, voting against smaller class size, and voting no on specialized learning facilities?! Really?! How the hell does that help at all?

  • Voted NO on $52M for “21st century community learning centers”. (Oct 2005)
  • Voted NO on $5B for grants to local educational agencies. (Oct 2005)
  • Voted NO on shifting $11B from corporate tax loopholes to education. (Mar 2005)
  • Voted NO on funding smaller classes instead of private tutors. (May 2001)
  • Voted NO on funding student testing instead of private tutors. (May 2001)
  • Voted NO on spending $448B of tax cut on education & debt reduction. (Apr 2001)

Rick Santorum has War on the brain. The guy is a scary Mother fucker, and I do not use that term lightly! He may look like one of those door-to-door bible thumpers, hell what am I saying, he looks more Mormon than Mitt Romney! But don’t let that clean cut, sweater vest wearing,  momma’s boy image fool you, this guy wants conflict, this guy wants war, this guy wants total and complete control over the U.S., this guy is a scary mother fucker! I’ll just let his record do the talking for me on this one.

  • Privacy is in 4th amendment, but Patriot Act is ok. (Jan 2012)
  • Confront virulent threat of radical Islam. (Jan 2012)
  • Giving money to Iran rebels is not enough. (Nov 2011)
  • Don’t cut one penny out of defense spending. (Oct 2011)
  • Terrorism is an asymmetric threat; we need worldwide bases. (Jun 2011)
  • Waterboarding gets useful info, like on Osama bin Laden. (May 2011)
  • We need to spend money to study the EMP threat. (Aug 2009)
  • War against Islamic fascism will be won or lost in America. (Sep 2006)
  • There are good earmarks, like Osprey military program. (Feb 2012)
  • Voted NO on preserving habeas corpus for Guantanamo detainees. (Sep 2006)
  • Voted NO on requiring CIA reports on detainees & interrogation methods. (Sep 2006)
  • Voted YES on reauthorizing the PATRIOT Act. (Mar 2006)
  • Voted YES on extending the PATRIOT Act’s wiretap provision. (Dec 2005)
  • Voted NO on restricting business with entities linked to terrorism. (Jul 2005)
  • Voted NO on restoring $565M for states’ and ports’ first responders. (Mar 2005)
  • Voted NO on adopting the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. (Oct 1999)
  • Voted YES on deploying National Missile Defense ASAP. (Mar 1999)
  • Voted YES on favoring 36 vetoed military projects. (Oct 1997)
  • Stay in Afghanistan until security of our country is secure. (Jan 2012)
  • Iranian people admire us; Iranian leaders are evil. (Jan 2012)
  • Afghanistan victory means Taliban is neutered, not wiped out. (Nov 2011)
  • Work with Israel to take out Iranian nukes by force. (Nov 2011)
  • Jihadists want to kill us for what we are. (Sep 2011)
  • Iran must be confronted to stop them from getting nukes. (Aug 2011)
  • No national security at stake in Libya. (Jul 2011)
  • Iraq: We have a great game plan, and Rumsfeld does fine job. (Sep 2006)
  • War in Iraq is one front in war on Islamic fascism. (Sep 2006)
  • Iran is at the heart of the Iraq war. (Sep 2006)
  • Saddam had no new WMDs, but did have old WMDs. (Sep 2006)
  • Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, but still a necessary war. (Sep 2006)
  • My Iraq plan, and my opponent’s plan, is same as Bush’s. (Sep 2006)

Yeah… I don’t know what his problem with life is, but News Flash Santorum: The Middle East isn’t out to get you, and no one needs you to run over there and demand affirmative action to find weapons/weapon manufacturing facilities that may, or may not exist. We all know what happened the last time a blubbering buffoon started beating on his chest demanding WMDs and I am pretty sure we can all agree we don’t want that happening again.

Rick Santorum is also delusional about what supporting the “working class” really means. He said “I appeal to blue-collar voters, not Wall Street.” (Jan 2012) but he is against unions (unions are a good thing, unions are the reason people aren’t forced to work hard labor for 15 hours a day, 7 days a week, unions are the reason people get paid vacations/holidays, unions are the driving force behind equal opportunity employment, unions are the reason workers can apply for workers comp, unions are the reason we get overtime and time and a half) and not only that but his voting record paints a very different picture. If someone showed me these three things and asked me, “does this person support the working man” or “do you think the working man supports this person” I would say No.

  • Voted NO on raising the minimum wage to $7.25 rather than $6.25. (Mar 2005)
  • Voted YES on repealing Clinton’s ergonomic rules on repetitive stress. (Mar 2001)
  • Voted YES on killing an increase in the minimum wage. (Nov 1999)

So, he thinks he appeals to us, yet, he doesn’t want us to make more money, or have better working conditions? Makes total sense!

Rick hates NASA. That alone is enough to make me not like a candidate. Scientific research is the single most important thing we do in our country! But, some people think it’s a waste of money and resources.  I disagree, and I’m sure everyone else would disagree to if Polio was a major epidemic again, or you know, they actually had to deal with ageing, or go without silicone implants, and forget that nice comfy tempur-pedic bed, or your video games, the internet, solar power, wind power, hydroelectricity, that fancy pants hybrid car you drive around in, or any car for that matter! Yeah, scientific research is a total waste of time and money, it doesn’t help anyone! *rollseyes*

  • Moon base is fiscal insanity. (Feb 2012)
  • Moon colony is fiscal insanity during debt crisis. (Feb 2012)
  • NASA programs sound good, but we need to cut programs. (Jan 2012)

FUCK YOU SANTORUM!

I really hate this guy, and I didn’t even include everything I hate about! There is so much more, I didn’t even begin to dive into all the crazy shit he has been saying the past few months on the campaign trail! I sincerely hope if anyone who is a Santorum supporter stumbled across this you will change your mind. Seriously, Santorum is no good for America! He stands in the way of everything The United States is supposed to stand for!

If you don’t believe me about Santorum, even though you have no reason not to (after all I am just some random stranger on the internet) go ahead and do your own research on the monster that is named Rick Santorum.

Santorum… *facepalm*

So, Santorum doesn’t believe in an America where the Bill of Rights and the Constitution mean anything. Well DUH! That much should have been obvious already, but at least now we have video evidence! :) If he gets the NOM Please don’t vote for him, I beg you!!  http://thedailywh.at/2012/02/26/santorum-santorum-says-of-the-day-3/

Got this off the Daily What. :)

Also, to all of you who follow me, i’m sorry for the silence, it has been crazy busy the bast couple weeks, but things should, hopefully, slow down now. :)

Bradley Manning Nom. For 2012 Nobel Peace Prize

Bradley Manning

That’s right, Bradley Manning was nominated again this year for the Nobel Peace Prize, and oddly enough I feel proud about it, let me explain a little bit because frankly it makes no sense at all, I am, after all a Navy wife and I have an enormous about of pride for our men and women in uniform, so it would be safe to assume that I would consider Manning a trader, criminal, a villan. But I don’t, I view him as a whistleblower, a patriot, an advocate for peace and truth, a political prisoner.

However, I didn’t always feel this way. When the story first broke about Bradly Manning my inital reaction was “what a scum bag piece of shit, he deserves life in prison for betraying his country”. But back then, all I knew is what they were saying on the TV about how he leaked classified information and because of that information hundreds, maybe thousands of American’s were going to die from it! The news talked about how this information could cause another 9/11!  Because, you know, no one can just say “terrorist attack” they have to say “another 9/11″ to really scare the shit outta people!

Anyway, the more and more I heard about Manning the more and more I became interested, now, up to this point I had never visited Wikileaks, but this story about Manning peaked my interest, the news keep referring to these videos and thousands of cables, I had to to see for myself, so I watched the video of our service men killing innocent civilians and I was mortified!  I knew that civilian casualties was nothing new, after all, in every official statement they pretty much tell us, “meh accidents happen” But this was no accident, in the video that was released, it was blatant, and cruel, and disgusting and it became immediately clear that the government has been lying to us about the “war effort” for years. In fact, we have been lying to everyone since day number one. But what happened to the whistle blower? Immediate incarceration, and solitary confinement. What?! I thought the Military had “whistle blower protection” That’s what they say on the AFN all the time, and by all the time I mean daily!  The thing that really pisses me off about the whole situation is there have been MANY exposed crimes, pictures of US solders humiliating and torturing prisoners, Marines Pissing on dead bodies, Pictures of our soldiers Mocking our own dead, Pictures of our soldiers holding up dead Afghan’s, or Iraqis as if they just bagged a 6 point buck! Despicable soldiers is what I like to call them, but what happens to those despicable Soldiers? Not a damn thing usually they just get  yelled at, maybe discharged, but they get to go home at night, they get to continue living without facing any sort of consequences for their war crimes, they get to continue about their business as if nothing ever happened. It saddens me, and It makes me ashamed to be an American sometimes. Sometimes because of these despicable soldiers and the fact that our Military, and our Government does nothing about them makes me ashamed to be a proud Navy Wife, sometimes when i’m out, I don’t want want to mention what my husband does because of these despicable soldiers! Even though I am ridiculously proud of him, I will neglect to mention he works for the Navy because I don’t want to deal with the flack I get from others because of these despicable soldiers.

Hell, when my husband was coming home from his second deployment, I went to the Safeway in Port Townsend to pick up some Camo Welcome Home balloons, and some plan blue and yellow balloons (navy colors ya know).  The man working in the floral department asked why I was getting the balloons, so I told him my husband was coming home, purposefully trying to avoid the “Navy Deployment” part, because I have received flack from people before, and I was in Port Townsend. I grew up in PT and I know those people are not very receptive to the Military, even though the town would exist if it wasn’t for the Navy, but that’s a whole notha’ story.  So, he kept asking questions so I told him, “Well, my husband is in the Navy, and he was out on a deployment for the past 7 months” “oh, where was he” he asked me, and I told him it was what they called a “pleasure cruse” and they just hit ports over in Aisa, no biggie really. Then once he filled all of my balloons he got this little smirk on his face and had the Gaul to say “well, I don’t support warmongers and baby killers, the Navy has no business in Asia” Excuse ME balloon man?! I gave him the most stern look I could muster and I said to him , “The fuck did you just say to me?!” He started to talk again, and I just interrupted him and said “You listen balloon man, I haven’t seen my husband in seven months, have you ever gone that long with out seeing someone you love? With little to know communication? Have you EVER had to sacrifice ANYTHING in your entire, pathetic, balloon peddling life?”  He looked at me shocked, because at this moment I was on a tangent, and I was being very loud and making quite the scene in Safeway, people were staring, I didn’t notice and I didn’t give a shit! So I continued by saying. “This is my fucking husband, my family and my friends you are insulting, by calling them warmongers and baby killers, how fucking dare you! You show some goddamn respect and keep those mother fucking balloons for yourself, because I am not buying another thing in god damn grocery store!” I was so pissed I was almost crying, and I was shaking, I

I typed Douche Balloon into Google and a picture of Snooki came up! HA!

could have strangled this balloon peddling douche at that moment. BUT as soon as I was done yelling at this asshole I heard clapping and cheering behind me, 30 or people erupted in applause in support of what I had just said, in support of my husband, in support of me sticking up for the troops, because they too supported them! Needless to say I was overwhelmed, and I had no idea that everyone in the store that night had heard the whole damn thing! The balloon douche was stunned and didn’t say anything. I looked at the Balloon Douche as if to say, “any other smart ass comments?” with my eyes, and I just left, I wanted out of there, and on my way back to the car I was becoming more pissed off because my husband was coming home tomorrow and I didn’t have any balloons! I was halfway across the parking lot when I heard a voice say, “hey wait” it was the balloon douche, he had my balloons, he apologized and gave me my balloons, and ran back into the store, no words were exchanged,  I was speechless finally, and humbled standing in the middle of the Safeway parking lot with my balloons. I wanted to say thank you, but I was still so pissed i almost wanted to leave the balloons as a ridiculous act of defiance, Like a “Fuck You Balloon douche!, I don’t even want these stupid balloons!” But I kept them. You know, I wonder now if he came out and apologized because he genuinely felt bad, or was it because the other patrons of the Safeway that night called him an asshole after I left.. I’ll never know. hmm..  Anyway, that was one hell of a tangent! But the point I was getting at is, I felt like I won a little battle of my own that night so I had a little glimmer of pride in myself on the drive back home, but the whole situation pissed me off for a week anyway! I was just fuming at this guys ignorance, so from that day I decided to just avoid telling people that my husband is Navy for fear of this situation repeating itself.  I’m not a fan of stress and if I can avoid it I will.

OK SO Anyway, back to the original topic. What should have happened to these despicable soldiers is the US should have owned up to the crimes and made efforts for punish all who were involved in the crimes, all the way to the top! Fix the problem, don’t punish those who expose the problem. By our governments lack of disciplinary action it causes people to have assbackwards opinions like Mr. Balloon Douche from Safeway, and it says to the world that WE are allowed to to whatever the hell we want, that we have no one controlling us, We don’t have to follow UN regulations, but god damn it if YOU break those regulations WE will be on your ass like white on rice!  Yeah good image America.

So I guess what I am getting at is without Bradley Manning we wouldn’t know about US War crimes, something that I firmly believe we should know about. But, without the knowledge of said crimes I wouldn’t have to constantly defend my husbands honor to Balloon Douches everywhere, and for a while I was torn because of that reason, but over the past year I have gotten over that selfishness and decided that having to stick up for my husbands honor isn’t a bad thing, it’s only a minor inconvenience, and a small sacrifice to make for truth, and much, much smaller than the sacrifice Manning made for the truth and honor of his country.  In my opinion he is not a trader, he is not an enemy of the state. He is a whistle blower, he exposed U.S. War crimes, and his actions should be applauded. As for the Peace Prize, sure why not! If someone can get the Nobel Piece Prize for NOT DOING ANYTHING, then surely exposing war crimes and being the spark that ignited the fires of the Arab Spring and the OWS movements deserves NPP.

The Information Age Has Forever Changed

No SOPA, but this is still a real possibility

Just a few weeks ago we were all celebrating the demise of SOPA and Protect-IP. It was a pretty great day, we all thought our internet was safe again, at least for the time being. But, and this is a big but, the past couple weeks have shown that SOPA and Protect-IP being postponed has absolutely no barring on blocking websites, banning/deleting web sites, and censoring the content of social media. Just with in the past couple weeks Twitter and Google have announced they will being censoring content. Three torrent sites have been closed down, and 300+ web sites were closed down in the United States right before the super bowl because they may have had some copyrighted sports footage, or information on the site. So apparently bills like SOPA and Protect-IP are completely useless, the government already has all the power they need to shut down and censor web content.

So why now? If the government has always had this power why are they just now beginning to exercise that power? Well I will tell you what my theory is, I‘ve touched on this theory a tad in previous blog entries, I believe it’s because of social movements like the Arab Spring, and our very own Occupy Wall Street. If you remember back when the Arab revolution first started the governments of the countries involved implemented a media blackout, they didn’t want the outside world to know what was going on and they tried their hardest to keep all information of a social/political revolution under wraps. But they forgot one thing, Social Media. People all across the Middle East took to Facebook, twitter, and blog sites like Tumbler, WordPress, and blogger to get their stories heard, their videos watched, and their pictures seen by the outside world and it worked! People took notice and the Arab Spring spread like wildfire, but that didn’t stop certain governments from trying to cover it up, The Egyptian, Libyan, Saudi Arabian and Syrian governments came under fire when they started blocking websites like Twitter and Facebook in an attempt to stop the flow of information coming out of their countries. But we, the United States said it was not right, it was anti-democracy to censor and stop the flow of information. We called them all ruthless dictators, and scolded these governments publicly on national television. We, along with NATO, even went as far as to conduct air strikes over Libya, all in the name of democracy and freedom! Sure enough the information from demonstrators began to flow freely once again, corrupt government officials resigned, or were killed and the first steps towards democracy in the Middle East had been taken. Now I know that lately the whole uprising has started up again, and there is some serious anger and unrest about how these countries are still being run, but of course this is happening, transitioning into an entirely new government is a long complicated process, just take a quick look back at united States history and you can see how long of an uphill battle it really is. Anyway, all of this happened because the citizens of those countries involved were sick of the bullshit and the only way we knew what was going on was because of Social Media.

Now this brings me to my country, the good Ol’ USA, the country that stood up for democracy, and internet freedom for Egypt, Syria, Libya, Tunisia, Iraq, Iran, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Ect. We supported the demonstrators, we want them to be free and democratic countries, we even celebrated right along side them when the dictators fell one by one! We took their victories and claimed them as a small victory for our nation as well. But an unexpected side effect happened in the wake of the Arab Spring. Occupy Wall Street. The beginnings of OWS has a very similar story to the Arab Spring, there was a massive American media blackout, not a single mainstream news outlet in the United States covered the beginnings of OWS, it wasn’t until people, again, took to Social Media that the word got out, we all found out and OWS spread across the world! Now, every city has it’s own Occupy movement, it would seem the Arab Spring was the gasoline American’s needed to get the flame in their hearts to ignite, it was the moment that all of us said, “hey, wait, you guys are trying to be like us, but we have a lot of problems, how does the rest of the world not know this? The world NEEDS to know this!” Thus the Occupy Movement was born, and in full swing. OWS is still going strong, not that you would know by watching the news, they hardly ever mention it, unless some violence erupts somewhere, then they are all over it. But hopefully you know as well as I do that violence is not what OWS is about, anyway, once the occupy movement started gaining real momentum, and more and more videos of police violence started to surface on Youtube and spread all over facebook it became real clear that the United States had some real problems. The government tried and tried to censor as much as they could, but by the time they started it was already too late, the world was, and is aware of our problems, everyone is now aware that The United States is not nearly as free and democratic as everyone once believed. This is a problem for our Government, more an more information is being exposed about U.S. hypocrisy and corruption daily, it makes the U.S. look bad, and it blows our entire fisade of being the freest nation on Earth! Our government needed to find a way to put an end to it, to silence the truth, so finally, big brother decided to use it’s power of censorship that it has been given through laws like the Patriot Act, and ACTA, but they wanted more control more censorship, so under the guise of piracy SOPA and Protect-IP were born, but unfortunately for the U.S. government we are all already aware of the damage bills like this could cause and we fought back, our minds have been opened and it’s going to be hard as hell to close them back up again, but they sure are trying to. By closing down information sharing websites, censoring blogs and social media, they are effectively taking away our voice to the outside world. American’s are being silenced and there doesn’t seem to be anything we can do about it anymore. Furthermore The imprisonment, and torture of whistleblowers, and the threat of lifetime imprisonment to future whistleblowers is preventing the truth from reaching the citizens of the United States, and the world. Threats of this nature are only brought about for one reason, to keep the truth under wraps, to keep us silent, it also allows criminals and murders to continue to get away with unspeakable crimes with no punishment.

A censored, government regulated internet is happening right at this very moment, whether we want it to, or not, and I believe 100% that it is because we, as a people, voiced our anger and frustration, and we as a people exposed the those who claim to fight the very injustices they cause. I guess all I can really say at this point is, at least they aren’t trying to lie about it anymore.
