Oreo Pride: The backlash

Christian hate* never ceases to amaze me, one day they are all up in arms about contraception, the next day a TV show, and today it’s all directed towards cookies, and not just any cookie, but Oreos! All of this hate is because of one simple picture. A picture of an Oreo cookie with rainbow filling that said “Support Love”. How could any sane person be against something like that? Well, to the hate filled (they say it’s love filled) Christians in the world it’s all part of the “gay agenda” (whatever the hell that is) and they aren’t going to sit back and watch Oreo corrupt the youth of America with their rainbow cookie of love!   So I decided to go onto Oreo’s facebook page to like the picture, and give my “good for you” comment but then I discovered the blind hate spewing out of these loving Christians mouths and I decided to collect up some of them and share them here because this is insanely comical to me! The hypocrisy of this, (and every similar situation) is hilarious, the best part is, they can’t see how hypocritical this is, they think this behavior is what love looks like!  ’Da FUQ’

First, here is the picture that is causing so much uproar. Now, I can’t seem to find one that says “Support Love” on it, I can only find one that says “Pride”, either way, this is the rainbow cookie. :)

Pride!

That’s it! That’s what they are mad about, a damn rainbow cookie supporting equality and love!

Now for the comments on the Facebook page. I’m going to break these comments into groups and only post some of them. There is literally hundreds of hateful comments on the page that are either exactly like these, or damn similar so I picked out a bunch of the “good” ones.

1. The simple “I dislike you now” people

2. The “stop shoving the gay agenda down my throat” People *Side note, WTF does that even mean? What the hell is this “gay agenda”?

3. The very popular “I don’t hate gay people, I just hate gay people enough to not eat a cookie anymore” people.

4. The “I have values/morals” people

Think of the CHILDREN!

So there you have it, a small selection of the crazy hateful Christians flooding the Oreo page with crazy comments. But don’t fret! Humanity isn’t a total loss, for every one of those shameful remarks there are 5 positive ones. :)

Isn’t it funny the things people get worked up about! I mean come on…. It’s a COOKIE, and not even a real one, it’s a photoshoped Cookie! If anything we should be mad that we can’t eat that delicious looking thing!

*When I say “Christian Hate” I obviously don’t mean ALL Christians, though, if I were to judge solely by the conduct I see displayed online by Christians, it would be easy to assume that all of them hate everything and everyone who isn’t a fundamentalist Christian like themselves.

An Unreasonable Man (Ralph Nader)

I feel that everyone should take the time to watch this video. It’s great insight on why a 3rd party doesn’t have a chance in the American two party “democracy” we have at the moment, and how quick the media is able to spin a story for the benefit of their chosen party. Spin it so much in fact, people to THIS DAY still blame Nader for Al Gore losing the election in 2000, he was painted as a villain and I find it compleatly ridiculous people still believe that bull they said about him!  It’s also quite amazing to me how much Ralph Nader has done for the American people! We can literally thank him for making our lives better, easier, and safer every single day! So take some time out of your day to watch this, I know it’s a bit long, and in this day in age where a 6 min Youtube video seems like a long waste of time, 2 hours seems like a life time, but trust me, this is well worth watching.

Ostia Antica: The Ancient Roman Seaport

We went to Ostia Antica today, it was pretty awesome. I love learning about ancient people and seeing firsthand how they lived everyday life. I always wonder what it would have been like to live in that time, how marvelous were the structures, the homes, the theater, the bath houses and even the military. One of the old homes had a fountain room! Could you imagine having a room in your home dedicated to a marble fountain? Wowzers.  Anyway, Ostia Antica is a really cool place and I recommend anyone visiting Rome to go check it out. It’s huge, you’ll want to allot at least 3 hours to the ruins themselves, we spent that long in there today and I just discovered we missed a whole section somehow! Also, Ostia Antica is way off the beaten path of Roman tourism so it’s very relaxed, it’s not like other sites I’ve been too where your herded around like cattle! In fact, while we were there two large tour groups went in the same time we got there and we only heard/saw them once off in the distance, I thought that was really nice, and it’s quite rare when you’re out looking at old stuff!  They also offer audio guides in English, Italian and French, and they have a few different guide books you can purchase.

Overall this is an awesome place, and honestly, I think it’s my favorite spot of ancient Rome so far, it literally has everything! It has the graveyard, bathhouses, neighborhoods of the rich and commoners, food warehouses, an amphitheater, shipping ports, a very impressive forum, and a very impressive military presence. Plus the history of this port city is pretty amazing, it started out as a salt mine, transformed into a military stronghold because of its strategic location on the estuary of the Tiber River and Mediterranean Sea, then, once Rome Occupied the whole Mediterranean the military presence wasn’t as necessary and Ostia turned into the major import/export sea port of Rome, it’s pretty incredible!

Here are some of my favorite pictures of the day.

The Graveyard. Those little arches are the spots where they placed urns.

For the next few weeks I’ll be a lot more active on this Blog because my husband has finally taken some leave! 3 weeks to be exact, and I’m really excited, we have some big plans for the next few weeks, we’re going to make stops at all the usual places, Pisa, Milan, Pompeii, Venice, Florence, all the usual tourist spots.  We are also going to hit up some of the lesser known spots, some of the beeches,  San Marino, maybe Turin, and hopefully we will get some good hiking in up in the Dolomites. So we have a busy couple weeks ahead of us and I will be posting a lot of pictures and random thoughts about the journey.

But until then here is some more Roma Randomness.

Church tower

Another church. I love all the different architectural elements the churches of Rome have. They’re all just a little different from one another.

Castel St Angelo has some truly amazing history behind it.

Statue on the bridge.

This is the back garden/court yard of my house. As you can see there was a wicked storm front moving in this day. I had to get a photo because the stark half and half sky was pretty cool looking.

My First Day in Roma!

My very first day in Rome, the city itself, was September 1st 2010. I remember because September 1st is our wedding anniversary, and I really didn’t think I was going to make it to Rome for that day! Let me tell you a little story, it all starts with my husbands orders being pushed up by six months.

So my husband came home from work one day and said he needed to pick orders that week, or the Navy was going to do it for us, so we called the detailer immediately for fear that they would stick us in Lemoore again! They told us we had some options, we had, San Diego, Naples Italy, Rhoda Spain, Signella, Italy, or Rome. We wanted the hell out of California so that was an easy NO, and we didn’t even know Rome was an option so it took us all of 5 minutes to decide that’s where were we are going to go. Once that was taken care of we had about two months to get everything together to leave. Two months for a HUGE overseas move is ridiculous but that’s the Navy for ya. So we rushed to get everything taken care of, and of course my husband’s stuff takes priority over mine, because, well, he had to report to Rome the first week of August. My medical was a huge pain in the ass, i’m not even going to get into it, but lets just say Mrs. Simmons is a HORRIBLE PERSON! Ok, so, our goal was to leave Lemoore California no later than the 2nd of July because we wanted to make it home to Washington for the 4th. Somehow we managed to get everything done in record time and made it home for the 4th of July. Now, I still didn’t have my passport at this point, even though I put in for it a few months prior, the passport/Visa I had to get takes forever because it’s a government issue, non tourist passport. So, July came and went and I still didn’t have my passport, Tristan, my husband, left on the 30th of July for Rome. I was left in Washington just waiting, I also had to get the cats ready to go to Italy, that’s a whole nother story that ended up costing 800 dollars! Damn spoiled animals! Anyway, It was a stressful time and all I cared about was getting to Rome in time for our wedding anniversary, because so far, even though my husband is in the Navy, we haven’t missed a single anniversary, and I was really stressing that to the Navy Travel people, the passport woman in Lemoore, who is amazing, and super nice assured me that she would get me to Italy in time for out 3rd anniversary!

So finally I got my passport and I was jumping on a plane three days after I got it. I left Washington State on August 30th at 8am, and arrived in Rome, Italy at 8:30am on August 31st! Talk about cutting it close! Needless to say when I finally got to my new home I passed out, I just spent 28 hours (counting the drive to Sea-Tac) traveling and I was exhausted! Then the next day for our 3rd wedding anniversary we went and saw the sights in Rome for the first time! :)  This first time in the City is still my favorite visit, not only because it was a long, stressful journey to get here, and once I was here a huge weight lifted off me, no, it’s my favorite visit because I still had a new untarnished tourist mindset of Italy. Everything was new, clean, and amazing! Now, the way I see Italy is not the same, not after living here, and for that reason, I am sometimes jealous of the tourists.

**NOTE:  So. creating two blogs was a bad idea, I don’t know what I was thinking LOL! I am way to unorganized, and lazy to write for two, SO, I’m combining them.**
